Weston ANZACS

This page exists to record the Weston players who enlisted to fight in the Australian Armed Forces.

As with all of the region's clubs, Weston players enlisted in great number to fight in the First World War. The list of 21 I have so far is incomplete and has a few uncertainties. For example, the names Messenger and Smith might not belong the club, though I suspect they do. The Kembreys are a different matter. The Kembreys were a sizeable clan in the region, six members of which enlisted. It seems a number also played for Weston. Two William John Kembreys from Weston served in the AIF. The younger (19 at embarkation) survived; the older (36 at embarkation) perished. The Club claims that 'Mustard' Jones and Matthew Robson played for Weston. I am yet to find conclusive evidence.

I'd appreciate any feedback or correction on the individuals and any others that are missing.

As my research advances I'll get to work on the Second World War and more recent conflicts, especially Vietnam which, I am told by Ray Baartz, involved many soccer conscripts from the region.
