From Sid Grant History of Coalfields Soccer

In 1914, Weston entered both senior and second grade premier­ship. In the former, Weston won the flag on 10 points with Mere­wether on 9, West Wallsend 8, Cessnock 8 and Wallsend 3. 

Big capture was Lambert, Ramage, Dave Clark, Dick Austen and Jim Bellamy. In the Ellis Cup, Weston 4 beat Minmi 3 after bemg 3 down at the interval. Rain fell unceasingly and Weston used correct tactics to snatch the winning goal in the 89th minute. 

In the semi-final, Weston beat Wallsend by 3 to 0 but were beaten in the final 1 to 0 by Merewether. 

Their final team comprised - H. Smith, J. Gilmour, A. Ramage, J. Snedden, R. Austen, J.  Laird, J. Wardlaugh, D. Clarke, W. Lam­bert, W. Snedden, J. Bellamy. Other who played in the series were J. Mather, J. Stoker, Kidd, Tweedle, Johnson.

Stoker and D. Clarke won interdistrict honours. In the Gardiner Cup series, Weston beat West Wallsend (3 to 1). Holroyd (2 to 0) but failed by 3 to 2 v Granville in the State semi-final. Scorers for Weston were D. Clarke and W. Lambert. Weston's XI -- H. Smith, A. Ramage, J. Gilmour, R. Austen, J. Laird, J. Snedden, J. Wardough, D. Clarke, W. Lambert, J. Stoker, J. Bellamy.
