From Sid Grant History of Coalfields Soccer

In 1912, Weston entered a strengthened 2nd grade series in which Merewether, West Wallsend, Killingworth and Weston staged a keen and prolonged battle for supremacy. In the semi-finals, Weston beat West Wallsend by 2 to 1, and Killingworth outed Merewether by 2 to 1. 

In the final replay Weston beat Killingworth by 1 to 0, the im­portant goal being netted by Ord, after a 3 all draw. Weston's eleven included - Smith, Jarvie, Hindmarsh, Williams, W. Sneddon, J. Sned­don, Smith, Bates, Keeling, Ord, Mather. 

These last three games made soccer Weston's top sport and Hindmarsh and Mather were the season's stars.
