1920

From Sid Grant History of Coalfields Soccer

More settled conditions marked the 1920 season. Four young stars in Tommy Oliver, Keith Rodgers, Sam Hawke and Jim Logan were included in the first. Jack "Kewpie" Mather suffered a serious leg injury which ended his long and meritorious career with the club. Whilst in the A.I.F. abroad, he received an offer to join Aston Villa in 1918. Later, he became a State Director and a great worker and asset to the code. In 1936, he returned to North of England to Blyth to take over the family business. Later, he passed away in 1937 at Kenton near Newcastle-on-Tyne.

In the semi-final, Weston was knocked out by Wallsend (3 to 0). Weston XI - Cockburn, Endean, Oliver, Rodgers, Lambert, Creighton, Self, Taylor, Avis, Hawke, J. Bellamy.

In the Gardiner Cup semi-final, after playing a 2 all draw against the strong Balmain Fernleigh XI - Weston bowed out to the tune of 2 to 1. Jack Avis with 12 was the season's top scorer.
